Gran Turismo Sport Will (Finally) Let You Take Pictures Inside Cars

Gran Turismo’s iconic “Photo Mode” has captured the imagination of hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people since it was first introduced in GT4, but one important little feature has always been missing – the game has never officially supported ways to take photos of cars’ interiors.

It’s a limitation which has baffled Photo Mode enthusiasts in our community, especially given the remarkably detailed interiors included in GT5’s and GT6’s “premium” cars. There are, of course, some ways to peek inside, but the well-known zooming “glitch” has many limitations and isn’t known to the average player.

This is finally set to change in GT Sport. “In Race Photo Mode, yes,” you will be able to take pictures inside of cars, Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed in a statement to GTPlanet.

Interior photography joins the impressive new “Photo Scapes” feature in GT Sport, which seamlessly renders the game’s 3D car models into real photographs. Although it’s starting to look like GT Sport won’t feature 3D “Photo Travel” locations (like Kyoto, which gave us Jenkins the Cat), perhaps Scapes and Interior shots will satisfy Photo Mode enthusiasts for now.

Until then, take a look at our gallery of GT Sport interior shots, direct from Polyphony Digital:

Some new different **** coming out with ps4 hardware, i like it! But…. the engine sounds…..

  2. Max911

I thought these were actual real-life pictures for a few minutes, I had to look really close to tell if it was virtual

The only thing they have to do now with the interiors is being able to change seat position. Up and down, back and forward. It’s that easy.
In fact I wonder why this feature is not common in racing games overall.

Project cars allows this, also dirt rally. 2 that I know of and I’m sure there are more. It is in racing games.

Finally. I would be mad if they didn’t.. Not like it’s hard, was waiting for this feature since gt5.. Seriously.. Pd fans are the most loyal and patient (Clarkson voice) ” in the world… ” not for no reason, when Pd finally makes something, they do it well, best possible… Sadly many things still missing, happy to see it all coming together anyway.. Really hope every little thing from gt6 will be in gt s, especially tuning… people get very mad when old good features are removed…

Great news indeed! The fact that Kaz said “in Race Photo Mode” is a little confusing though. Does he mean we can take interior shots exclusively in Race Photo Mod, and not in Scapes?

On a side note, I believe Kyoto is featured as a Scape, if not Scapes. I remember seeing it in the trailer. I believe Scapes to be the better option for photography as opposed to Photo Travel where we can walk around in a recreated location because of the overall focus on quality with Scapes. Better to have a lot of high quality backdrops scaleable to 4K than a few sandbox locations i.e. Photo Travel with tradeoffs in quality (some locations can look pretty bad, and we can see a clear disparity between the car level of detail which is exceptionally high, and the bland environment). PD made the right choice. Almost looks like magic even.

Scapes are a fixed perspective, so an interior view is out of the question. I do hope they have traditional photo locations like the previous 3 titles. Scapes seem far too limited and honestly a lazy way to make a photo environment. It’s basically just a traditional rendering environment with some depth information.

Valid question, so far every single shot is taken at idle. But it’ll be in races for sure, Kaz said so! Let’s take his word, what could go wrong…

Notice how they’re all at about the same position and angle? I bet you don’t have very much choice in how you take a photo, just one, maybe two fixed cameras.

Only thing I really hope to see from the next GT game is proper vehicle camera views! The interior ones are promising but I’ve already seen some weird hood cams (randomly on the roof) and chase cams (very far away from car) that look exactly like GT6 8(

      you´re absolutely right !!!
the pictures are really nice, but there are so many other important points to work on. for example the missing wheel camber in gt6………camber “0” has the best grip……….it´s still unbelievable…

With the PS4’s ability to save screenshots of ANYTHING a player desires, PD had no choice but to add this function!

Don’t get me wrong, it is very much welcomed in my eyes… It takes the photography to a new level. We photographers will have some fun with what we can capture!

Interior grafics in gt 6 are not that detailed. In Japanese cars look good, but see the French models as Renault Clio rs, or even the focus St. You can’t see week the numbers on the dash… In Nissan , Mitsubishi etc the did a great work.
Now in GT sports… God, look at that!

This is tremendous news and these images look amazing. However, it still baffles me how even with the enormous power of the amazing graphics capabilities of the PS4 that it still cannot handle circles well. The image of the GTR for example is outstanding but it’s totally spoiled by the edges of those round silver dash details. They put so much effort into getting the materials and lighting, it’s now almost indistinguishable from real life, apart from the circles. I don’t get it. Surely they could tell the graphics engine to address this? Even just doubling the line count on the circumference would help. All this power and low poly circle edges.

    1. SDSPOWER01

I’m assuming you’re talking about on 3 dimensional shapes, because circles are used in 2d graphics all the time. If so, you’ll probably also know that any 3D shape in video game graphics is made up of a bunch of flat surfaces put together (polygons).

So if you had a 3D ball made of a bunch of polygons, and you cut that ball into thin slices, each slice would look like a ‘circle’, except the outside would be made of a bunch of straight edges (one straight edge on the circle for each polygon that went around the ball).
      Here’s an example:

I’m sure with the help of adaptive tesselation it should smooth out the edges most of the time ;)

    2. SDSPOWER01

i would also like to add that even in forza motorsports 6 you can see those non smooth edged circles however its less noticable tho.

This will be a huge step for VR when setting the camera inside the car at 60FPS with this excellent quality to feel more realism :)
