Forza Motorsport 6: Lapping the Mercedes Racing Truck & BMW Isetta

The “Turn 10 Select” car pack introduced seven new cars to Forza Motorsport 6 last week. Easily the most unusual of the additions, the Mercedes-Benz Racing Truck and BMW Isetta represent both the biggest and smallest vehicles in the game. Naturally, we had to take them around the track in stock form, to see what they’re capable of.

Up first is the six-wheeled, 1080hp behemoth. The European Truck Racing Championship doesn’t run on many tracks available in the game: the shorter Nürburgring variation isn’t available, leaving the Le Mans Bugatti Circuit. We decided the track in Germany is more interesting, so the full Grand Prix layout is the setting for the test.

Considering its size, the most alarming thing about the big Merc is the amount of grip available. Yes, it weighs over 12,000 pounds, but you’d hardly know it considering the cornering speeds on display. Rowing the gears can get tiresome off the line, but once on the move, you never really need to drop down below 7th. Thanks to the weight and those big tires, braking is also seriously impressive. Naturally, with the aerodynamic profile of a brick, top speed is not the truck’s forte. But on short tracks, it can be a surprising contender. Just learn to resist the urge to duck going under any bridges.

The Isetta is not a powerful car. With an unlucky-sounding 13 horses in the corral, it doesn’t even have a quoted 0-60mph time: it can’t reach the benchmark. Well, maybe it could, on a very steep decline. We weren’t able to test that theory. While the idea was tossed around about tackling the entire Green Hell, we wisely vetoed that idea for something a little shorter.

Catalunya’s School Circuit is as diminutive as the BMW, measuring just over a mile long. Even in stock form, the car requires careful inputs: anything too sudden will see it raise its inside front tire before toppling over. Think of it as a sort of reversed Reliant Robin, though with four wheels versus three.

We’ll be covering the remaining cars of the pack later on this week. Swing by our Forza Motorsport 6 section to discuss the new rides – and the rest of the game – in more detail.

you can put a 2-rotor in that BMW…. it gives it so much torque at 500rpm its hilarious how quickly it moves the moment you tap the gas. lol

The Isetta was almost my first car. My friend wanted £50 for his back in 1975 because he’d just bought a Mini. Never did get it though as someone beat me too it (that was almost three weeks wages for me back then…)

looks like every 5 seconds it plays an animation of the driver adjusting his hands on the steering wheel lol

I get the strange feeling that the BMW Isetta will be to Forza what the Daihatsu Midget was to GT.
